Walt Disney’s “The Lion King” demonstrates one of the best examples of archetypes and why they matter I’ve ever seen in popular culture.
During the movie, Simba, the young lion is brought to the edge of a cliff where he encounters a vision of his father in the sky. Simba has forsaken his role as king because of his guilt and shame, and he’s been hiding while his people suffer under the rule of a usurper. A monkey-guide brings him to the cliff on the promise that he will see his father again – and he does – as a vision in the clouds. And his father tells his son to “remember who you are” and that is time for him to take his place in the cycle of life.
Although he is afraid, this vision of his father, embodying the archetype of the KING, calls Simba out of his self absorbed exile. His father helps activate within Simba what is already there, but what he has forgotten, the archetype of the King in him.
As Simba accepts and embodies this archetype, he regains his power, which he had cast off because he believed he was responsible for his father’s death. His belief in his unworthiness disrupted his expression of his power, but it could not kill it. The archetype of the king lay latent within him just waiting to be activated at the right moment.
And the same is true for you. Within you are powerful archetypes lying latent and awaiting the moment in which you will activate them. I’ve discovered that there are EIGHT essential archetypes of the Visionary Entrepreneur. And you have all of them within you. Some of them you have awakened within you. Some are unfamiliar to you. Some you may have utilized in your life, and they are demonstrations of your powerful self. Others you have stepped into and out of, but you have not fully embraced and embodied the types to the extent that is possible.
Even more, these Archetypes of Power have not been activated and utilized fully for you in relation to your visionary business. I have seen this over and over again with myself and my clients. Like Simba, you may be disrupting your power by beliefs about your unworthiness, lack of expertise, questioning if it’s right to charge a significant rate for your services, or being afraid of “tooting your own horn.” These beliefs can be so deep down you don’t even know they are there – but they are disrupting your ability to get the results you want nonetheless.
Or maybe you use your power in the service of others, and you hold back when it comes to using it for yourself. And when you do commit to being more powerful, you’re not sure how to do that in ways that really help you build your business without being aggressive or obnoxious to other people. So maybe you stumble over your words, or come on too strong at the wrong moment, and you just are not sure when and how to use that power to your best advantage.
Whatever your situation, activating and embodying these powerful energy types will bring you greater clarity, confidence, certainty and far better results. You will see big changes in your ability
