Last week I was off with Emma to Calaveras County for three days with her fourth grade class for a field trip on the California Gold Rush! We panned for gold, learned about the original Wells Fargo, stagecoach travel and stagecoach robbery, and 19th century dentistry (don’t ask) as well as a blacksmith, who says the practice is very similar to what it was 170 years ago.
We enjoyed a great play about the Gold Rush, and many of the kids–and two parents–got to participate. It was a lot of driving (sigh), but a great bonding experience for the kids and the parents. And yes, there was enough spaghetti to go around!
Then on Sunday we had the special pleasure of being in the path of the solar eclipse. In the evening around 6pm it began to get noticeably dark and we went outside to see what we could see.
Here’s a photo of the shadows of the crescent sun on my outdoor bath tub (yes, I have an outdoor bath tub for a cold plunge). I have no idea why these shadows appeared as they did, as the yard was also full of “regular” shadows as well. We were grateful to have such a clear image of the eclipse!
This eclipse is also part of the growing energies of the portal of 2012, which will continue to build through the rest of the year. If you experienced clearing symptoms or heightened states of awareness during this last Sunday, it’s likely that the eclipse was helping you along on your spiritual journey.
Eclipses are said to help bring the shadow into the light, and that can be a powerful, if at times uncomfortable experience. Take note of what you’ve been experiencing this week to see the changes for you.
