We are living in legendary times.
Future generations will look back at this period to see what we did to move through the challenges facing us. Yes, we have enormous challenges and enormous opportunities right here alongside each other.
What will be your legacy? What will you be remembered for?
It’s a sobering question, isn’t it?
One of my mentors, Sue Hoya Sellars (who you’ve heard me speak of before if you’ve been getting my newsletter for awhile) is nearing the end of her time here on planet earth. During this last week, when her life has been hanging in the balance, I have witnessed and participated in an out-pouring of love and prayers the likes of which I’ve never experienced before. Sue is the Matriarch and master painter of the Cosmic Cowgirls community, and her legacy is enormous.
She had to be cajoled into becoming the teacher who affected us all so deeply. She wasn’t seeking fame or notoriety. She was dedicated to her craft, and over time to sharing her craft with as many women as she could touch. She professed that life is art, and that the art of seeing and rendering provides THE critical lens through which to experience and make sense of life.
She taught so many of us to see, and feel, and know differently.
To dedicate ourselves, to practice, to SLOW DOWN, pay attention, and create.
Her legacy will live on for generations after she has left us. Not because she intended to be legendary. But because she simply IS a legend.
It’s worth thinking about: What will be YOUR legacy? Because inside each of us is the potential to make a difference, a real difference. Whatever the size of your contribution, it is an important one.
When you lean into this question, your life takes on a different meaning. Your horizon of possibilities expands, your sense of purpose and responsibility deepens, and you tap into a deeper part of yourself that knows why you chose to be born here at this time.
Even if you don’t know what your legacy is yet, you can begin to move into it with intention. You can open to the longing and calling inside of you and listen. You can assume that you have something bigger inside you and start to live from that place.
Whether you’ve been in practice for years, or closer to the beginning of your business, you can bring more vitality and meaning into what you do each day if you embrace the truth that you are creating your legacy right now. Having a purpose larger than yourself to inspire and motivate your engagement in your business makes huge sense. Without it, your days can become a grind, even when you like what you do. But with this, all your actions will be infused with a greater power and authority, and you will create better results for yourself and your clients.
Passion inspires. Sue Sellars inspires by her dedication, passion, and skill. She inspires by her mastery of her craft. She inspires by her cosmic vision. She inspires by her unwavering ability to be herself wherever she goes.
You do not have to step onto the world stage, create a million dollar business, or write a best seller in order to create an impact. You do need to be focused, committed and clear. You do not need to be the most brilliant person you know, or do something no one else has ever thought of. You do need to be willing to be visible, to engage fully, and to not give up – no matter what.
You have leadership alive within you. You have the capacity to create a legacy. You were born into a time when you are truly needed for what you came here to bring.
What will you be remembered for?
