All of my clients have heard me say: You need to pull your emotions out of your business.
Why? Because when you are emotionally fired up—either what you think of as negatively or positively, you don’t make the best decisions. This is particularly true when you are emotionally triggered.
Then you really have no idea who is in charge.
Why? Because when you’re triggered, an experience from the past has been activated, and you are referencing the past to understand what’s happening in the present. You are not actually thinking clearly about the current situation—you are filtering what’s in front of you through the meaning you gave to what happened in the past.
And that can mean that a six-year-old, a two-year-old, or someone who was burned at the stake in an earlier life is making decisions for your business.
Scary thought, right?
Yet I see this virtually every day.
Because when you approach your business activity and decisions with fear, trepidation, overwhelm, the desire to be perfect, the need to be liked or approved of, or concern about what other people think about you—and these are SUPER common—then you are referencing something in the past to understand the present.
You are operating out of your conditioned thinking, not accurate thinking.
In fact, you are not actually thinking at all—you are reacting.
And the trickiest part is—you are so smart, that you often find all kinds of seemingly logical reasons to justify your fear and your resistance.
You say things like: “the reality is” ______________ .
- I don’t know where to find people to talk to about my business.
- People keep saying “no” to my offers.
- People just won’t pay that much for ______________.
- I don’t have the money to ______________________.
- I don’t have the time and energy to ___________________.
- I can do this on my own.
- I’m just not motivated to do that.
These are all signs that you are in limited thinking, produced by inner references to the past that you probably don’t even know you are making.
You are not in possibility thinking. You are not using the true power you have to create what you want.
In fact, you are using your power against yourself! You’re giving your precious life force energy to old beliefs and patterns developed from this life and your Soul’s Journey instead of to what you really want. Amazing, right?
This is where the Spiritual Rubber hits the Road.
Are you living what you espouse to believe—that you live in an abundant and benevolent universe in which you already have what you need?
Or are you living as if there is not enough for you or for others? As if danger is lurking, and some unknown but malevolent marauder is likely to pounce when you send out an email to your list or call someone to invite them to work with you?
It may sound silly when I say it like this—but stop and be honest with yourself.
And it can happen the other way around, too.
You get über excited, and go into magical thinking, and somehow imagine “it’s all going to work out” without accepting that you have to plan and do the work to make your business a success.
That’s another patterned response that is not clearly looking at the current situation. It’s a spiritual bypass—“the universe will provide for me.”
That’s called entitlement. Remember: god helps those who help themselves.
Of course yes, what you need is already here. And everything is always working out for you. Yes, yes, yes.
AND, to create you need to engage. I seriously doubt that checks for thousands of dollars will appear in your mailbox, even if you meditate regularly and are in a good mood all the time.
So who really is running your business?
My recommendation is create a powerful and clear-eyed combination of your right-brained, creative and intuitive self together with your intelligent, analytical, left-brained self, freed from looking at the past for reference and standing optimistically in the present.
From there, YOU can not only be in charge. You can COMMAND the future.
